Riding in the city, you might need a bike with armor and porcupine needles these days. In all seriousness, you need the right bike for that city commute. You need to be able to switch gears, break easily and stop on a dime and you need to be able to first and foremost trust your bike. You don’t want to have to worry about anything happening when you’re in the middle of traffic. You need a good commuter bike for being in the city for sure.
You might also need to count on carrying things with you on the ride. How do you plan to do that? There are many ways to accomplish doing this, but some are easier than others. In the city where I live, I see bikers carrying grocery bags, several of them, attached to the handlebars. That’s creative, but it’s not necessarily the most comfortable and greatest idea. There are as mentioned different ways to get the job done.
What you need is an elastic cargo net. You can have more than that, including a basket. Baskets are more old-fashioned of course, but that’s just the word. There are all kinds of baskets and racks you can have put on your bike. You also need to think about how you can use apps to help you with navigation and everything else. You have apps at your fingertips on the go. Just be sure you’re not using your cellphone while you’re riding around. You can pull over, just like people are instructed to do if they are operating a motor vehicle.
Just remember not to skip over the point about the elastic cargo net and extra storage space. Even if you don’t need it on a daily basis, it’s likely to come in handy if you’re always commuting on the bike. Perhaps its to work every day without needing the storage and a once a week trip to the grocery store where the extra storage comes in handy. Don’t make it difficult on yourself, and remember it’s not just about getting your goods back and forth. It’s about getting yourself back and forth, meaning you want to be safe out there.
Most of what you need to know about choosing the best city bike is going to be based on safety. It’s not just the safety features and the ratings but also about you getting the right bike in general pertaining to your safety in so many ways. One thing you might not have thought about yet is bike storage. Everywhere you go, you have to have a place to put your bike. It is going to be different in many places that you go, but your regular spots you will get used to right away.
Not only do you need a place to put your bike, but you want it safe and secure. You don’t want anyone stealing it while you’re inside working or at the store. Therefore, you need a security lock for your bike. Also, consider what accessories you need to get and any tools or other things you need on you in case of emergency.
